What is Spiritual Awakening?

I have already written about the awakening of kundalini energy, and while the concept of spiritual awakening is closely related to it, they are not identical. The awakening of kundalini can be a catalyst for spiritual awakening, but spiritual awakening can also occur independently, without the activation of kundalini. When a person reaches a certain level of maturity and spirituality becomes an important part of their life—something that increasingly occupies their thoughts and actions—we can say that they have entered the process of spiritual awakening. Since it is a process, it can have different phases, even a spiral movement, returning to the same themes, all with the goal of discovering one’s spiritual truth. Thus, spiritual awakening as a process does not necessarily mean absolute awareness or enlightenment—only a few souls living on this plane achieve such a state.

Spiritual awakening brings certain (spiritual) realizations into a person’s life. Knowing something on an intellectual or mental level is not the same as integrating that realization on a deeper level.

The journey of spiritual seeking can take many different paths, but each soul’s path is unique—no two are completely alike.

It is important to understand that different paths lead to the same ultimate realization: discovering who we are as a soul and recognizing our own inner truth.

The Role of Past Life Memories in the Awakening Process

A fascinating phenomenon often occurs during the awakening process—the emergence of past life memories within us. These are recollections of lives the soul has lived in previous existences. Remembering past lives is a relatively rare phenomenon, but it tends to occur more frequently in individuals on the path of spiritual awakening.

Are Past Life Memories a Blessing or a Challenge?

One key question we can ask regarding past life memories is whether they are a blessing or a challenge. It is important to remember that before coming into this life, each of us had a soul record—a blueprint that determines what the soul will experience and learn in a given lifetime, including its abilities. If a soul’s record includes the awakening of past life memories, there is a reason for it, and that reason often comes with challenges.

There is a certain fascination and even misunderstanding in the public sphere regarding past life memories, as they are often viewed as part of the larger mystery that naturally attracts attention. Many people believe that having such memories would be a blessing, yet remembering past lives can actually create great confusion, interfering with one’s ability to fully engage in the present life. This supports the idea that “there is a reason we do not remember.”

How Past Life Memories Can Emerge

Past life memories can be triggered through hypnosis or regression therapy, but they can also emerge spontaneously during waking states or through dreams. Whether induced or spontaneous, these memories always have a trigger. The key difference is that memories bring not only images but also sensory-linked information—such as smells, sounds, tastes, bodily sensations, and emotions—all drawn from perception and the emotional body.

Interestingly, these memories are often stored within the current physical body, as the body has developed and manifested through our DNA, which is not limited to our present existence. This means that working with the physical level—through movement, touch (whether therapeutic or traumatic)—can trigger a flood of past life memories.

Sometimes, it can be difficult to distinguish between genuine past life memories and imagination or suggestion, as the boundary is thin. The primary distinction lies in how we access authentic memories—most easily through emotional impressions that have left a strong imprint on our energetic body. These intense memories penetrate our conscious and intellectual awareness more easily, forming a coherent sequence of events that we recognize as a story.

The difference between true memory and imagination is that authentic information is accompanied by emotions deeply embedded in our energy and recorded at a vibrational level.

Important Note: Not All Memories Have a “Storyline”

Sometimes, a memory manifests purely as an emotion that arises within us, without any clear reason or context. We may suddenly feel a certain way and have no idea why.

These types of memories are actually much more common than those in which we recall detailed stories and circumstances from past lives. In fact, this is an area I frequently encounter in my healing practice. A typical conversation with a client often starts like this:
“I don’t understand why I feel this way or why this is happening to me. I even went through psychoanalysis, and no childhood trauma was identified that could explain it.”

Triggers of Regression

To provide a clearer understanding of this topic, here are some common triggers of spontaneous regression:

Most often, regression occurs due to the awakening of certain vibrations within us. A specific vibration can activate another similar one. In the context of spiritual awakening, the processes we use to raise our vibration release lower vibrations from our energy field—vibrations that can no longer remain within us as we transition to a higher level of existence.

Through the elevation of our vibration—achieved through spiritual awakening processes—we may reach higher states of being, where forgetfulness does not exist. In these states, both the soul’s memories and its knowledge become accessible to us.

Certain events in our current life can act as triggers if they resemble experiences from past lives.

In interactions with others, regression triggers can occur through:

  • Eye contact → recognition of souls
  • Hearing someone’s voice → recognition of vibration
  • Physical touch → activation of tactile memory

Understanding the Circumstances of Past Lives

When experiencing a regression, it is wise to filter it through another perspective—the understanding that our current body and cultural framework differ greatly from the time in which our soul lived through the events that left deep imprints on our memory. This means that the events and circumstances we recall may not be entirely accurate in their narrative, primarily because our present perspective lacks the tools to fully comprehend the way of life back then.

The emotional and psychological impact of recalling past experiences can be profound, sometimes shaking us to the core and leading to an identity crisis.

For example, in this life, you may be living in a body of one gender but recall a past life where you strongly identified with another. You may remember crimes you committed or that were committed against you. You might recall a romantic relationship where vows were made, possibly even experiencing tragic loss, only to find yourself in this life married to a completely different soul. It is also possible that the soul of your child in this life was once a close family member with whom you parted on bad terms in a previous life.

Dissolution of Personality and Ego Through Memories

Though exploring past life memories may seem intriguing, we must remember that their presence in our soul’s record for this life has a purpose.

Let’s consider the energy of a person who begins to recall past lives.

From childhood, we adapt to the parameters of this life. Even if we exist in a state of energetic constriction and blockages, this becomes our homeostasis—the way our personality and mind survive in the reality imposed on us. When an impulse within our energy triggers awakening, it disrupts this homeostasis, shifting us out of a survival-based state. This impulse is usually activated by the soul when it is ready.

Although awakening is ultimately a positive experience, from the perspective of the personality, it can feel like a deep upheaval, dissolving the framework that once defined our existence. Energetically, this means being thrown off-center, leading to a loss of grounding in the beliefs that shaped our perception of reality for years. This shift often brings an identity crisis, requiring us to release fixed identities and limiting beliefs—an uncomfortable but necessary process.

What’s crucial is that as the awakening process unfolds, the personality starts asking:
“What is my center?”
If my center is not my name and identity, then what is it?

Discovering this truth is part of the awakening journey until we realize that our true center is our consciousness—the core of our existence. And while it might seem like this marks the end of transformation, it is only the beginning of understanding what it truly means to be consciousness.

Integrating Past Life Experiences Into the Present Moment

Realizing that we are souls on a journey through multiple existences unveils profound insights about ourselves. We begin to see ourselves as a vast array of potential, capable of manifesting in this life without limitations. We also recognize that we no longer need to repeat lessons we have already learned.

Another key realization is accepting ourselves as multidimensional beings with a soul that transcends time and space. While this idea is widely discussed, there is an important aspect of past life memories that is often overlooked:

Memories as a Gateway to Unresolved Vibrations

If we avoid becoming too attached to the storyline of our past life memories, we can use them as stepping stones for awakening and healing. These narratives can reveal underlying vibrational patterns that influence our past and present experiences.

By understanding that past life memories correlate with themes and lessons we are working through in this lifetime, we gain deeper insight into their significance. When we allow our consciousness to reveal the truths behind these experiences—no matter how painful—we can release the vibrations they carry.

The lessons of the soul remain, but by clearing these vibrations, we attain freedom.

Accepting Ourselves Through Multiple Existences – Accepting Life Within

One of the traps of mainstream spiritual trends is the emphasis on manifesting one’s dream life. However, this is not necessarily linked to accepting oneself as consciousness. When we embrace ourselves as consciousness, we allow it to shape our lives through us.

Consciousness is the life within us, and if we are forceful or harsh toward ourselves—toward this life within—we create blockages. If we try to manipulate consciousness into moving in a certain way, we obstruct the natural flow of life within us, which can lead to imbalances and even illness.

We Are the Portal of Our Own Existence

The insight into past lives is like a window that has been slightly opened, just enough for us to glimpse the magnificence of our own existence.

As we shift our awareness to the center of our being, we begin to uncover the skills and knowledge we have acquired through past lifetimes. In this moment, as we connect with all that we are, we act as a portal of our own existence—expressing the wisdom and knowledge of our consciousness through the life we live.

Guidance for Navigating Intense Experiences

When we begin to experience past life memories or face revelations about what was and what is, it is essential to maintain a sense of neutrality, despite the intensity of these realizations. Accepting these insights without emotional attachment or judgment can make the process smoother.

Additionally, it is helpful to have a trusted person who can listen without judgment, providing support during this transformative journey.

Conclusion: How to Move Forward on the Path of Awakening?

The process of awakening is not just about remembering past lives—it is a deeper understanding of what we have always been and what we will continue to be beyond this life. If we have consciously stepped onto this path, we will soon realize the importance of grounding and daily spiritual practice. These help us connect with our timeless essence and embody it more fully in our everyday lives.

Awakening is a continuous journey, constantly revealing new insights about ourselves. While facing these revelations can be challenging, the path remains magnificent—guided and orchestrated by the higher aspects of our existence. By embracing this process, we open ourselves to deeper wisdom, inner peace with what is, and a more authentic connection with our true self.
